Alevropita - Batter Pie with Feta

Alevropita, literally "flour" pie, is one of many Greek recipes for batter-and-cheese pies that are traditional in the Greek kitchen. They are sometimes called lazy pies because they are basically easy and don't need much skill to make! They are very common Greek recipes in northern Greece.

  1. Preheat the oven to 390F/ 200C.
  2. In a bowl, add water, olive oil, flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, pepper, and oregano. Mix well with a whisk until it’s well incorporated and there’s a thick batter.
  3. Oil a 11-inch baking pan with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and sprinkle some all-purpose flour on top. Spread half of the batter at the bottom of the baking pan.
  4. Spread crumbled feta cheese, kasseri, oregano, and pepper evenly. Spread the remaining batter on top and sprinkle with oregano, pepper, and 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
  5. Bake for 40 minutes. Remove and serve.
