Ingredients

  • 1 large fresh tomato
  • 1 ½ cups chopped button or portobello mushrooms
  • 3 Tbsp extra virgin Greek olive oil
  • ½ pound 250 g lean ground lamb
  • 1 small red onion minced
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tsp dried Greek oregano
  • For serving: Pita or bread ½ cup Greek yogurt, pickled peppers, 1–2 ripe tomatoes (diced), 1 lemon (wedges)

Instructions

  1. Grate tomato and strain until thick. Mince mushrooms in processor. Grate onion, combine with tomato.
  2. Heat 1 Tbsp olive oil, cook mushrooms until dry; season with salt.
  3. Combine lamb, garlic, oregano, Worcestershire sauce, mushrooms, salt, pepper. Mix gently and chill 30 mins.
  4. Form 6 patties; grill or broil to desired doneness.
  5. Warm pita and serve with burger, yogurt, tomatoes, pickled peppers, and lemon.
